イエスが言ったようなことをただの人が言ったとすれば、その人は偉大な道徳的教師などではない。その人は「俺は温泉卵だ」と言ってきかないレベルの精神錯乱者か、地獄から来た悪魔だ。あなたは選択しなくてはならない。この方は神の御子だと言うか、狂人、いやそれよりも悪い存在と言うか。イエスを愚か者と片付けて、つばを吐きかけ、イエスを悪魔として打ち殺すこともできるし、イエスの足下にひれ伏して、イエスを主、神と呼ぶこともできる。しかし、イエスは偉大な人で、優れた教師だったなどという、上から目線のたわごとは言わないでおこうではないか。イエスはそのような選択の余地は残していないし、イエスが意図していたことでもない。

You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But don’t let us come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He hasn’t left that open to us. He didn’t intend to.”
